Much like the continuing relationship of Panerai and the Luna Rossa team, today marks another chapter in the synergy between Panerai and the Navy SEALs. With a history that is intertwined with the Italian military, Panerai has long held a commitment to crafting timepieces that truly embody the challenges, bravery, team spirit and adrenaline in a way that only Panerai can. The pairing of Panerai and the Navy SEALs has brought us not only some legendary looking watches, but also experiences for the owners that they could have never imagined such as the Navy SEALs experience we covered a while back.
Thanks to this continued relationship, Panerai is officially releasing 4 new watches into the Navy SEALs collection. The PAM01518 44mm Submersible, the PAM01513 44mm Carbotech Submersible, the PAM01669 47mm Titanio Submersible, and last but not least, the PAM01521 47mm Titanio DLC Submersible.
In 2024 the new collection draws it aesthetic and functional cues from desert camouflage. The design element that connects all the watches in this collection is the Navy SEALs decal which is at the 6 o’clock position on the dial, a small seconds counter that looks a lot like a target. The case backs on these pieces are engraved with the official Logo of the Navy SEALs. Of course what would a Panerai be without some Super-LumiNova and in the case of these 4 beauties it’s not exception. However this time the color of the indexes are coated with a sand colored finish to compliment the watches perfectly.
First up in the collection we have the PAM01518 Submersible QuarantaQuattro Navy SEALs edition. This 44mm features a brushed steel case with a unidirectional rotating bezel crafted from the same resilient steel. The PAM01518 is powered by the P.900 movement which is renowned for it’s amazing reliability with a 3 day power reserve. This piece is rated for 30 bar water resistance.
The next piece in the collection is the PAM01513 Carbotech QuarantaQuattro GMT Submersible Navy SEALs. Although this piece is the same size as the PAM01518 Stainless Steel Version, it boasts a weight that is 64% lighter than titanium and 80% lighter than steel. This carbotech beauty goes one step further adding a GMT function which is powered by a 3 day power reserve P.900/GMT automatic movement. This model is rated for up to 50 bar water resistance.
The third model is the PAM01669 which features a size upgrade from the previous 2 models. This 47mm beauty which we have grown accustomed to in Submersible models is made out of brushed titanium which is 40% lighter and 60% stronger than stainless steel. To compliment the titanium case, the watch features a carbotech rotating bezel. The automatic P.9010 calibre features a central hour and minute hand, a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a date display at the 3 o’clock position. The movement also features a quick change of time feature, which allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently in hourly increments without affecting the minute hand, providing convenience to those who travel a lot and need a quick change. For greater accuracy when adjusting the time, the calibre also features a device which stops the balance wheel and consequently the seconds hand when the winding crown is pulled out. The timepiece is water resistant up to 30 bar.
Rounding off this new 2024 Panerai X Navy SEALs collection is the robust limited edition of only 80 units PAM01521, 47mm Titanium DLC Submersible Chrono. The submersible is powered by the P.9010/R calibre which is an automatic movement with a 3 day power reserve and flyback chronograph functionality. With a vertical clutch and column wheel, the chronograph minutes are displayed by a central hand that jumps forward once every 60 seconds. This feature enables the chronograph hands, which are already running, to be returned instantaneously to zero and restarted in just one operation.
The countdown can be set by pressing the push-button at 4 o’clock, allowing the minute hand to retreat one minute with each click until the desired time is set. The chronograph hands are activated with a press on the “START” push-piece at 10 o’clock, and the watch also includes hours, minutes, small seconds, calculation of immersion time, stop seconds, and seconds reset. The power reserve of 72 hours is made possible by its two serially connected spring barrels. This design choice allows for the use of thinner and longer springs, which provide a consistent and stable delivery of energy over the entire period of the reserve. The dial, featuring a gradient from black to anthracite and accented with beige Super- LumiNova®, ensures legibility in the most challenging conditions. The screwed Titanium DLC case back enhances the watch’s water resistance to 50 bar, making it suitable for even the most demanding underwater missions.
All of the Panerai Navy SEALs models come with 2 straps, the first one is a bi-material combination of rubber and camo pattern textile. The second strap is made of black accordion rubber for a more sporty look. The PAM01518, PAM01669, and PAM01521 feature the quick strap change system to make things easier and faster when wanting a new look.
The first three models will be exclusively available at Panerai Boutiques starting September 24th, 2024 while the PAM01521 which is limited to only 80 units worldwide will hit the stores in October 2024.
