Press Release: Scottish Watches and Formex unveil the Essence “Skye” New Collaboration Watch

Scottish Watches and Formex are thrilled to announce the release of the Essence “Skye” collaboration watch, featuring a unique aventurine glass dial with distinctive ultraviolet elements. Limited to just 100 numbered pieces, this exclusive timepiece is encased in Formex’s bestselling 39 mm stainless-steel case.

Equipped with an officially COSC-certified Swiss mechanical movement, the watch incorporates specialized features designed for enhanced comfort and daily wearability. Prices start at $1,890 on a leather or rubber strap, and $1,990 on the solid-link stainless-steel bracelet.

Sparkles, dancing lights, and a hidden Scottish castle

When Scottish Watches and the engineering team at Formex came together at the drawing board, Rikki envisioned a dial that reminded him of a unique place in the highlands of Scotland—the misty Isle of Skye. When the sky clears at night, the star studded expanse in this remote region is truly mesmerizing.
With a bit of luck, you might also witness the Aurora Borealis-the breathtaking colorful display of light that has fascinated people for centuries. To mirror this in a dial, Formex created an aventurine glass dial with luminous drops that come alive under ultraviolet light. Symbolizing the natural phenomenon of the northern lights, the watch features lume on the applied indices from 10 to 2 in green and from 3 to 9 in blue. In daylight, a blend of different glass colors and copper shavings give the dial a shimmering and
elegant touch.
The delicate nature of the material makes every stage of the dial’s production-be it milling, machining, flattening, finishing, or setting the applied indices and hands—a true testament to Formex’s extensive expertise in dial craftsmanship. Through the open case back, the sapphire crystal offers a transparent view of the intricate mechanical movement inside. At night, an infused UV resin reveals a concealed drawing of Dunvegan Castle when illuminated by an ultraviolet torch (included in the box). This
enchanting artwork, sketched by Matt Webster—a dedicated Scottish Watches podcast listener and talented tattoo artist— brings a unique, personal touch from the podcast’s community to the watch.

A certified Automatic Chronometer

Driving the hands is a Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 self-winding movement with an extended power reserve of 41 hours. Formex has chosen its highest quality grade “Chronometer” because it comes with premium components such as a Glucydur balance wheel which is exceptionally hard and stable, very resistant to deformation, non-magnetic, and non-corrosive. The movement is fully decorated, has thermally blued screws and is wound by Formex’s custom-built skeletonized rotor. Each one of these
movements is certified by the COSC (the official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and undergoes the meticulous 15-day rate test to ensure extraordinary levels of mechanical accuracy and precision.

Essence “Skye” Collaboration Watch on a wrist

Built to wear everyday

Beyond enhancing its visual appeal, the details on the Essence 39 mm “Skye” are designed with functionality in mind. To ensure it remains a versatile timepiece for any occasion, Formex has prioritized exceptional wrist comfort. The patented case suspension system, an integral part of Formex watches for the past 25 years, acts as a shock absorber to protect the movement, and increases comfort by allowing some flexibility when the wrist bends or swells. Additionally, the patented Carbon Fiber Composite Folding Clasp, equipped with a gradual fine-adjustment system, allows for on-the-go strap adjustments, providing a perfect fit in any condition or temperature. The leather and rubber straps can be changed without the use of any tools and the extremely comfortable and articulated stainless-steel bracelet can be
mounted on the watch in seconds. The bracelet features screwed links and a unique micro-extension system.
The Essence 39 mm Skye Automatic Chronometer is available at the Formex Online Boutique on a stainless-steel bracelet, four leather straps or a black rubber strap. Prices start at $1,890 on a leather or rubber strap, and $1,990 on the solid-link stainless-steel bracelet, with shipping, taxes and duties included for the US, UK, Australia, and most countries within the European Union.

Collaborating with the team at Scottish Watches has been an incredible experience. We instantly connected when we first met over four years ago and knew we’d end up working together in the future.
After experimenting with various natural stones and meteorites, I was thrilled to work with glass. The Aventurine dial brings a level of elegance to the Essence that surpasses any other dial in the collection

We’ve been champions of Formex at SW Towers for years as they offer unparalleled features at aninsanely low cost, so working with them on a limited edition piece was always on the cards. Raphael has a wit and comedic timing that gels perfectly with the fun and sarcasm we like to dish out here at Scottish Watches so not only is the watch a technical marvel, but it also has the right amount of fun and humor that will bring a smile to anyone that learns it’s secrets.
